Enable producers to have their own brand of coffee
The idea was born from the observation that with the coffee crisis in the 90's many farmers started transformed illegaly (without sanitary permits or governmental authorization) their coffee in order to sell by themselves and thus hoping to get better returns. We wish to help producers come and process their coffee in our "beneficio" (processing factory) and develop their own brands and distribution channels.
This system will enable small producers to keep their land and their coffee and to become an entrepreneur. Our "beneficio" being certified organic, it will encourage producers of the region to first have a legal way to transform their production and second to get an oorganic coffee to sell.
This would be an alternative to the black market and all its excesses. Our "beneficio" is operating with all the legal and sanitary authorizations and thus protects bothe producers and consumers.
We wish to propose a la carte services to producers, from the sole transformation of coffee fruit into green coffee to the entire charge of sales and marketing through our internet platform.
Diversify our products
We would like to create not only a selling platform through our website but an online grocery shop of organic and fair products of the Turrialba region
It is true our producers make much more than just coffee: sugarcane, cocoa, banana vinegar, etc… By this our association promotes the diversification of their "fincas" (small farms) in order for them to multiply their sources of revenu and to limit the economic risk (sudden collapse of a raw material stocks).
We hope we will be able in a near future to increase the sales of these products so that you can fill your kitchen of all what coming from a solidary production, coming from our beautiful region of Turrialba!
Banana vinegar, for your salads and more!
The coffee cultivation is often combined with banana trees because it creates a biological barricade to counter the spread of diseases and enriches the soil.
Not being in a one of the largest banana regions of Costa Rica the possibilities of commercialization are limited and the best way to apreciate this product is to transform it.
With some equipment we can transform bananas to make a delicious vinegar. We will try to commercialize a part of this vinegar for human consumption. You will be able to make incredibly tasty salads and sauces with this new nectar!
Yet banana vinegar has more than one trick up its sleeve; it is an excellent herbicide. Totally harmless for the environment and accepted for organic production, it will give associated producers the ability to fight against tall grass that establishes itself in the middle of the plantations and makes harvesting more difficult. In Costa Rica some grass can grow up to 1cm per day (0.4 inches) and plantations can rapidly be recovered by vegetation.
Reforest to protect our biodiversity and provide additional income for producers
Everywhere in the world forests are being looted and destroyed. We rise up against the disapprearance of this paradise of biodiversity and jewel for humanity. We are proud to cultivate the lands of a country that hosts 6% of the world's biodiversity and we do not want this treasure to be destroyed.
It is for this reason that we wish to launch with each voluntary producer a programme for reforestation or an association of endemic trees with coffee cultures. We are currently working on the obtention of the certification « Bird Friendly » that certifies a coffee cultivation associated with trees and thus preserve birds' biodiversity.
These forests will enable certain species (Ceiba speciosa and Zygia longifolia) to protect our environment, the fauna and the flora, by building natural corridors. Meanwhile, thanks to other species (Laurus nobilis and Vochysia guatemalensis) they may be amenable to a rational exploitation. Thanks to the Costa Rican climate a tree only takes about ten years to reach a sufficient size to get cut and sold.
Everybody wins: the environment and the producer!
